In general, one can say that living space calculations are very simple and, depending on the floor plan, can be created or checked very quickly. However, when calculating the living space, the question is always asked, according to which specification you should check or calculate it.
- in publicly funded housing, the regulation on the calculation of living space (Wohnflächenverordnung- WoFlV) is recommended. The Law on Social Housing Promotion (Wohnraumförderungsgesetz – WoFG) must also be observed.
- to determine the rental value of an apartment, the living space and rental value guideline (Wohnflächen- und Mietwertrichtlinien WMR) would be advisable.
- however, if the base area and the volume of a building or parts of a building are calculated, DIN 277 is used.
